Every meeting is different, and it really varies by area. When I go to a meeting, we begin by standing and saying the serenity prayer. Next we read the preamble, do a round of introductions(Hi, Im Andrea and Im an alcoholic), and we read from a daily meditation book. Then the chair person asks if there are any new comers. If there is, we welcome them. If not, we move on to medallions. If someone has a significant time of sobriety they would like to be recognized for, we allow a few minutes for a medallion to be given, or just to congratulate the person. Next the chair person(person running the meeting) introduces the topic. When he or she is done, they will pass to the next person who will introduce themselves and speak. We go around in a circle until everyone has talked. If you arent sure you are an alcoholic, or dont feel comfortable introducing yourself as one, you can just say you name and mention this is your first meeting.Expect applause ( :
After everyone has spoken, we close the meeting with the Our Father. I usually stay after for fellowship, and have coffee with whoever is there.
So that is my experience, hope it helps. Congrats on going to your first meeting.
