Take the focus off that person (not easy to do) and put the focus on you. The only person you can change is yourself. What is really amazing is that very often when you begin to change, the other person takes notice. There is a wonderful program called Alanon that can help to change your life. It helped to change mine. Just remember, there is hope!

don't nag, don't cry, don't threaten because it's a waste of time. get help for yourself. the addict will or will not decide to get better on his/her own terms. if it's not too late when he/she decides it's time.

If an alcoholic is unwilling to get help, what can you do about it?
