Dear New Comer,
I pretty new too, but have been coming into the rooms since Sept 1, 2010.
Wherever you are, please get online and find out where the AA meetings are and go! Go to as many meetings as you can fit into your schedule.
Put your hand up when you go or when people greet you and say hi before the meeting or during the break, and tell them you are new and that you need help.
People are usually happy to help you if you only let them know what you need. Keep you chin up.
You have made the first most important step, admitted to yourself that you think you need help.
Go to meetings.
Get a sponsor (another woman, who will help guide you and help you find your way), at least a temporary one ASAP.
Get a list or lists of other women in the program.
Call them, every day.

Good luck. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. If you want what we have (sobriety) and are willing to go to any length to get it, you WILL succeed. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Best,
Deirdre

Hi Ann.

Congratulations that you've taken the first and in many ways the hardest step...admitting you need help. While everyone needs to find their own path, I have some recommendations.

Go to your doctor and tell him/her you have a drinking problem. Follow their recommendations.

Find an AA meeting and see if it works for you. And if that particular meeting will work for you. Each meeting group has a different feel. All meetings are anonymous and the right group can be a tremendous resource.

Don't feel shame or resentment or too much pride that you can't stop drinking. You have a disease. But you can get better.

Above all, don't drink today. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. But don't drink tonite. (And if you do and slip -- and we ALL have, don't beat yourself up. Just continue where you left off.)

My good thoughts are with you.

I am new to this and scared. I think I need help. I drink often and once I start I don't know when to stop.. I do hold down a job but it seems like I am out of control with the drinking binges.. I have never been to any programs...I dont know where to begin to get my life back on track. I have tried to stop and it seems like I cant get past three or four days...
