fdrp: Hi and welcome! You have come here, and that says a lot. I think you realize that you have a problem, or you wouldn't have been here. It's good that you did come here before you ended up at the point of no return. Before many of us find drugs/alcohol, we can look back and see other addictions, whether it is television, video games, shopping, toys, etc. One is all we need to realize we want more and more and that's addiction. It is a disease. You should find some meetings and go and listen to what is being said. If you don't think you have an addiction issue after you have done that, all you have lost is a few hours of your time, but you will have learned a lot. If you can relate to what you are hearing and you feel comfortable, put your hand up and share honestly what you have said here. If you don't like the first meeting or two that you go to, find a few others to go to, not all meetings are the same. Accept a phone list when it is given and call some of the people on the phone list to talk. The goal is to call before you start drinking and end up regretting what you did, getting arrested, or worse. You'll find that our pathways may be different, but the journey is still the same. I won't lie and tell you it will always be easy, you will find temptations and you have to put a plan in place to deal with those temptations before they happen. Come back and post and let us know how you are doing, we do care.

Are meetings for me?

I think I can admit I have a drinking problem. Once I start I can never start and most of the time I do drink I end up waking regretting most of what happened the night before either by own recollection or what others tell me (though black outs are more frequent in recent years). I have lost a fiance, a couple girlfriends, and a couple friends over things I have done drunk. But the other half of the time a lot of my friends think I am the life of the party and love to go out with me.

That being said, I almost always place enough fail safes in place, be it by alarms or co-workers to make sure the night before doesn't affect my ability to get to work and work with quality.

Does this mean I just generally immature at my age (mid 20's) rather than the idea that I have a problem? Would going to this meeting make me seem like I am exaggerating or that there really isn't a problem related to an addiction?
