Hi Ken,

The "whining" part is pretty harsh I think. Maybe they had a bad day or heard bad news, or maybe they're just venting and it sounds to you like they're whining... No meeting is perfect unless you choose who participates. But you know AA doesn't work that way.

Tell your friend to try different locations and different times. There are tons of meetings everywhere, and I'm sure you'll find the one she likes.

Seeking the solution

Hi, I'm Ken and I'm an alcoholic. I'm from Minnesota, but I have a friend online from Deleware county, Pennsylvania who has had a bad experience with some meetings. Meetings where people just whined about their problems, but working no solution. What I'm looking for is some good solid meetings that I can recommend to her. What I mean by solid is: Strong sponsorship (someone who will take her through the steps, I.E. another woman who has been through them herself), a place where "whining" during a meeting is discouraged (after all, that is why we have sponsors), meetings where people are not just content to "put the plug in the jug" but live better lives as a result of working through and living the steps. If anyone can help direct her to some meetings in the area that sound something like what I just described, please contact me at iamklunkdog@hotmail.com

-Thank you,
Ken

ps: no offense is meant here, just trying to help a friend.
