Coping through laughter...

Post by ChrisSmithComedy » Wed Nov 09, 2011 5:13 pm

Greetings from Bucks County. My name is Chris and I am a comedian/educator that had a father that was addicted to methamphetamine for nearly fifteen years. I am proud to say that my Dad was able to overcome his addiction and subsequently became a drug and alcohol therapist based out of Norristown. Although my Dad passed away nearly nine years ago, I feel that through my comedy I can bring a connection to those that are currently or once dealt with addiction. I'm looking for feedback from those that are affected directly by addiction and wanted to get feedback from those that are all too familiar with what addiction means not only for the addicted but also for those that struggle with the addiction of others. I am preparing for a nationwide tour starting in January and believe that my calling was introduced to me through one of the greatest gifts for those that struggle: Laughter.
I know so many have their own story to tell and I believe that my comedy brings to light a familiarity or kinship that others may not always understand. I am currently working towards establishing the Jeff Smith Foundation where those that have dealt with addiction will have the means to aid in their recovery and help those families that must bear the burden of their family members addiction. I hope to hear from anyone that reads this and my goal is to generate interest in creating a Comedy Benefit that will help get my Foundation idea under way. If you know of venues, sponsors, or are interested in helping to establish this foundation, please don't hesitate to provide any feedback that you are willing to share. I look forward to hearing from you all.
Fondly,
Chris Smith
