What is Sobriety?
Sobriety is something that no human being could ever explain because it is a gift from our creator. Sobriety for me though has meant realizing that every person here on earth is on the same playing field, none of us can run our own lives. This means that we do fall victim to addictions prior to being introduced to our creator, God which I only know through the spirit of Jesus Christ. Sobriety goes way beyond the superficial meaning that most people know, which is "we dont have alcohol in our blood anymore" but sobriety is so much more than that. You and I all know that alcohol was exactly as our big book tells us, "but a symptom of our problems." Meaning that, we were all discontent and irritable when we were running life on OUR OWN terms. So we picked up this tainted bottle that we once saw as an answer to our problems, this bottle was filled with something we are all familiar with, ALCOHOL. After days, months, and years of continuing to be powerless and trying to fill our void of unhappiness with many things, alcohol and whatever else would give us 5 seconds of peace of mind, we ran out of options and found that our answer to the unhappiness was not a SOLUTION. Sobriety means that I am not just content without a drink, I am elated! It means that my higher power has transformed me into a person who is so much better then what I could have ever dreamed of. I have been CURED ...HEALED...and most importantly so BLESSED because God has given me the greatest gift one could ever hope for through his son, he has filled my feeling of emptiness that I once had. I have HOPE for tomorrow and PEACE with my past. I have a book with a manual on how to live according to Gods plan, and a promise for eternal life.
Sobriety, it is another one of Gods bountiful gifts. Today, I am still a human being, do I make mistakes... absolutely, its only natural. Although I am so unworthy, through Christ God still loves me and you.
