I know I have a problem. I need to stop drinking and want to stop. I have never been to a meeting and am scared to confront myself. Can someone help me understand the format the meetingand what to exect before I go in. Also, where can I go in the Abington PA area. Thanks to all.

Hey DanH, kudos to you! There are quite a few meetings in the Abington area depending on when and at what time you want to go. Check the home page to find one that is convenient to you, and post another message if you need help or more info.

You can get whatever you want out of aa meetings. You don't have to talk if you don't want to. Anonymity is the key word. You'll realize that you are not alone. You'll hear about people like you and me who try to cope with the disease every day. The meetings are a great way to help. You can go every day, or twice a day. It's worth it.

Keep in touch.

Hi,

You sound just like me. I finally found the nerve to go to a meeting this week (actually I've been to two so far), and I'm so glad I did. At both meetings, the people were incredibly welcoming and supportive. As soon as I said I was new, I had tons of handshakes, welcomes, and smiles. It felt so good to be with great people who knew EXACTLY what it is like to struggle with this problem. I hope you go! I found tons of choices by going to the Sobrietyonline.com page, clicking on the link with groups by zipcode. Good luck! I hope you decide to go.
