First time AA meeting tomorrow.

Unread postby krislynn620 » Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:44 pm

I am going to my first ever AA meeting tomorrow. I am scared and really nervous. I have no idea what to expect. I am 27 years old and I have been battling with alcohol for years now. I need to stop. I make AWFUL decisions when I drink. I put myself and others in danger constantly. I have tried to stop and it usually lasts about a month and then it hits me hard again. I have NO IDEA what a limit is.... when I drink it is to get drunk thats it. Its time to seek help and talk to ppl who understand. Any thoughts on what to expect tomorrow?

Hi, what will normally happen when you walk in is that a few people may smile, introduce themselves and ask if its your first time. There will be no judgement or opinion of you whatsoever, just a gentle support and understanding of you and your situation. Many people describe their first meeting as feeling like they have come home! Because at last they have a space to sit and listen, be with, speak to and be acknowledged by other people who completely understand their struggles and suffering. My advise is to go to the meeting and if it doesnt resonate with you, go again, and go again, and go again! You may also like to try different groups to see which one you really feel comfortable in and the other thing is always to listen to peoples stories finding the similarities between them and you not listening to the differences in their stories to yours. Remember you will all be there for one single common goal and that is to stay sober and to support each other in doing so. Go with an open mind and an open heart to what you may find and please remember one important thing in all of this, NO ONE will be judging you :)
