I'm scared and feel alone

Unread postby wcgothgrrl » Tue Mar 24, 2009 1:04 am

I am 29 years old and last st patricks day I got wasted to the point where I flipped out on my fiance and we got into a physical match. I am not one who drinks all the time but when I do drink sometimes I don't know when to stop. I have not been to a meeting yet and I am thinking about going into rehab because I can't loose my fiance or my family. I have had so many issues in my life and they seem to come out whenever I am drinking. I don't know where this is going to lead so I want to stop right now. I come from a birth family of alcoholics but I actually just found that out tonight. I am adopted and met my birth mother when I was 17 and today I called her crying about what happened. I feel alone and stupid and I honestly can't do this alone. I need support and I don't know where to go. I am what they call a binge drinker and I just don't know what to do.

Please help....

Scared,

Get to a meeting.....get to several meetings. let people know who you R and what's going on. you'll be amazed at how many will not only understand where you are and what you're going thru, but have been there themselves. that's how this works.
you're right....you can't do this alone.

I would recommend not only get to a meeting or many meetings but open up , let people know how you feel and get at least three phone numbers before you leave each meeting. This is what was suggested to me by my sponsor and it worked. The more you do this (get phone numbers at every meeting) the better you will feel, even if you don't call a majority of the people. The idea is that you have someone to call when you need it the most; sometimes it is a choice between making the call or taking the next drink, none of us know when that might hit. So it is reassuring to know you have back up just in case one person is not home, you can go on to the next one and so on until you reach someone. We do not have a guarantee with sobriety but we do have a guarantee to be there for each other whenever possible!
I can volunteer to drive you to a meeting sometime if you feel scared to go by yourself. My email is djdjanuary@ gmail.com.

See how simple this is? I just gave you my contact info without you even asking for it. You can email me at anytime. Hugs to you, Daniel

Mellissa,

The best thing to do is to go to a meeting, raise your hand, and if all you can do is just say your name and that you need help, that is good enough. My name is Kristen and about two years ago that is what I did, and it worked.
