The definition of sobriety is not just complete abstinence, it's also moderation. However if you're an alcoholic, you'll never be satisfied with only one drink. Or you'll be satisfied for a while, but you will relapse. It's what addiction is all about. I've never heard of an alcoholic who can go for years with only one drink once in a while. Because if you can, you're not addicted to alcohol. My husband tried several times to quit drinking or tried the controlled drinking. He relapsed each time. Not because he's weak or worse than others, or whatever. But because he's an alcoholic.
