Is AA where I should go

Hello to all, I don't know if I should go to a meeting if I am appropriate or not. My behavior that I would like to change is that I am a situational drinker. I can go weeks without a drink, but put me in a casino, party, bar etc and I drink way too much. I hate the guilt, embarrassment , remorse for my actions ans swear I won't do it again yet I do. I realize I have an addictive personality- have the history of gambling too much, eating too much, smoking too much etc. So is AA a place where I can learn to change???????KAT

I would say give it a try. I could go weeks also, but when I started, I wouldn't stop. You don't have to be living under a bridge to qualify. If your drinking is causing guilt and shame, give AA a try. Tom

Kat, My suggestion would be to just go to a meeting, sit and just listen and if you hear anyone person in that meeting story that somewhat relates to your life then you will have your answer, and if not go to another meeting. I guarantee you will eventually find the answer your seeking.I wish you the best, give it a try.

If you're not an alcoholic AA will be the best mistake you ever make.

It sounds like you have answered your own question. Nothing in life should bring about such horrible feelings of regret and embarrassment. Just you having to ask this question gives you your answer. YES you should!

If you can over-drink yourself to shame, imagine how well you could over-live to joy.

Kat. I was in the same exact sitatuation as you. I couldn't stop myself And the embarrassment was terrible and I couldn't drink casually without waking up feeling a brick wall of guilt on my head and heart. I'm still young. Only 23 and still in college. I wasn't sure Aa was the best place for me but to tell you the truth I know I wouldn't have made it to 24 if I didn't go. It saved my life and who knows where I would be without it today. Best of luck see you there!
