Even though you don't drink often, you have the hallmarks of an alcoholic--you can't control how much you drink and drinking impairs your decision-making, deciding to drive drunk, for instance, and taking a chance that you might injure others or yourself in the process. I would suggest that you start going to AA meetings immediately. Science has found that alcholism is a chronic, compulsive disease of relapse that can never be completely cured, but can be gotten under control through behavioral modification such as 12-step programs. You can easily find out where AA meetings are online. Each meeting has a different personality, so try out different ones and see which ones you like. Go to at least several meetings a week (most recommend going to 90 meetings in 90 days). Most importantly, get an AA sponsor to guide you through the 12 steps. You never have to feel this way ever again, if you are serious about not ever drinking again. Going to AA will not only help you stop drinking, it will help you to become a much better, happier person.
Good luck to you.
