Wife's in rehab for drinking....more to story, need help!

Unread postby fence71 » Wed Aug 31, 2011 1:45 am

My Wife is in rehab and doing well. Her parents are up from florida to help watch our 3yr old. I work nights and the problem is they themselves are alcoholics and drink nightly. Do I suck it up and deal with it until she gets out in 3 weeks or do I need to ask them to leave?

fence71: Unfortunately, you need the help right now with your 3 year old. Definitely have them gone when she gets out and have all the alcohol gone from your home. To have her come home to them drinking and to alcohol in the house is not a good thing and will only serve to tempt her to go back to a lifestyle she is working to break. She'll need positive reinforcement and AA meetings, definitely. You are being very supportive of her, by looking for help here and that's important. Together you can do this and have a much better life.

Fence, although you need the help with your daughter right now and her parents are there and willing to help, but your putting your daughter at risk right now.An acoholic puts one thin g first and thats themselves and the drink. My suggestion to you would be to thank your inlaws for their support and kindly ask them to leave, and find someone who is not acoholic that you can trust and really depend on to watch the most precious gift that can be given to one,or you need to adjust your schedule to meet your 3yr olds needs,Remeber with addicts of any kind one thing comes first and one thing only and thats their drug of choice, acoholic or other no different,I wish you the best in whatever decision is made.clean & sober 7yrs and counting.
