Condition for 16 year old friend to return to our home

Unread postby Doylepjmom » Thu May 10, 2012 12:02 am

My 16 year old daughter has fallen big time for a 16 year old boy with a drinking problem. Upon first meting, he filled me in on many of his issues.I liked him....he was forthright, direct, respectful but hurting. I told him my perceptions and that he was welcome in our home as long as he was straight and working on getting his act together. Tonight, 10 days after our initial introduction, he visited for the third time. While driving him home, he pulled a bottle out of his back pack and took a slug of something that smelled like hard alcohol. I challenged the scent. He said it was Brisk, then began spraying perfume in the back seat and opened the car windows. A few minutes later we pulled up to his house. I immediately turned around, looked him in the eye and said: " Let's work on that "trust thing. Let me have the bottle you drank out of." He said: "No." And, left.

I told my daughter that I strongly believe that he has a drinking/drug problem and that he can come back to our home when he has joined AA or NA and returns with a sponsor. Is that a reasonable request? Is that something a sponsor would do? The boy doesn't have a car, or easy access to getting around but AA is free and someone would help to get him to meetings, right? My daughter is a "rescuer" who wants to help. I told her that that sounds good but that he needs professional help and that he has to choose to want help. Any thoughts/advice for me. It's tough to break up the new Romeo and Juliet. I can control non school contact but not every minute of her day.
