NA for Teens

Unread postby concernedmom » Mon Aug 03, 2009 5:10 pm

My son, 18 years old, has recently agreed to "observe" an Narcotics Anonymous meeting. I am quietly searching for one in our area, northwest Philly, that I can suggest he might go to. Can anyone steer me to one that he might feel comfortable in? He is involved in marijuana smoking and it has gotten to a dangerous level and in an attempt to help, without fanning a fire of further rebellion, I am trying desperately to help head him in the right direction before he leaves for university. Abington, Conshohocken, Ambler? Is anyone familiar with these meetings? Any first hand knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

hey concernedmon, let him try different meetings at different locations. he'll get a lot out of it anyway. it's tough to recommend meetings and/or locations because what "fits" one will not "fit" the other. the point is to go.

I am a caseworker outside of philadelphia. I would suggest possible getting the philadelphia inquirer or other newspaper in the area you are looking for. You really need to call and check into these groups yourself. I have heard of some bad stories about people attending different groups and then go out and use after the meeting. Really research and look into them yourself. Some groups will allow you to go and check them out first. Also, going to your local Mental Health/practice can help....they may have info for you or have a therapist who is specialized in drug addiction. Hope it helps
